The Strand, Dee Why
Dee Why Beach is situated on Sydney’s northern beaches and is located between Curl Curl Beach and Collaroy Beach.
Recently upgraded, Dee Why Beach has become a popular family destination. With two enclosed playgrounds (one located on the southern end of the beach and one near the carpark), a rockpool and a tiled promenade, the beach offers great facilities for families with young and older children.
Kids can ride their skateboards, scooters and rollerblades along the pathway or they can play table tennis on the brand new ping pong table. You will need to bring your own balls and racquets though – you can pick them up for a few dollars from Big W, Kmart or Target.
If your children are confident swimmers, they will enjoy boogie boarding, body surfing or swimming between the flags or surfing outside the flags. Younger kids can swim in the special wading rockpool or play on the rocks and search for shells and observe sea creatures.
For lunch and dinner, Dee Why has a large selection of take away shops which sell pizza, fish and chips, hamburgers or enjoy a sit down lunch at one of the many cafes or restaurants, offering food from all corners of the world.
For afternoon treat, venture over to the Gelato Bar – the ice cream is delicious as is the coffee.
You will also find BBQs near the playground and tables/benches all along the promenade as well as a large grassy area to relax on.
There are no shaded areas on the sand so bring a beach umbrella or tent and naturally don’t forget the sunscreen, hat and sun protective clothing and if you are coming with young children, a bucket and a spade.
Street parking is available near the beach and there is also a large paid carpark near Dee Why Surf Club. It is advisable you get to the beach early, as it tends to get busy, so parking can be a challenge, especially on the weekends and during the holidays.
Dee Why Beach has great amenties including, toilets, showers, change rooms and bubblers. One building is located near the surf club and another near the rock pool.
If you haven’t been to the northern beaches for a while, why not plan a weekend escape before the weather gets too cold.
