With summer in full swing, you may be looking at ways to keep your children occupied and cool without breaking the bank. Here are some tried and tested ideas for summer water fun.
1. Slip N Slide
For an investment of around $20, this is guaranteed to keep your children amused for hours. Available from stores such as Big W, all you need to do is connect the waterslide to your garden hose and you are done. The slide is suitable for children 3-12 years. The Wave Rider Double is 4.8 metres long and 1.2 metres wide, however, there are other slides is available.
2. Water Bomb Kit
Suitable for children aged 8 and over, this water bomb kit is available from Kmart stores for only $10. It comes with a bottle and a pump which lets you fill balloons with either air or water. Also included with the kit are 500 water bomb balloons.
3. Wahu Mini Soccer Ball
Wahu manufacture a number of different water games and their mini soccer ball is one of my favourites. It retails between $10-15 from places such as BigW or Uncle Pete’s Toys and ensures hours of water fun for the kids and adults. The ball is made from waterproof neoprene skin and is great to bounce on water. Naturally you can play soccer with it or even water volleyball. Wahu also makes a full size soccer ball and footballs.
4. Water Guns
Water guns are great for keeping children active and cool. Ideal to take to the park, where children can hide behind trees or even at the beach where they can easily and quickly reload. Water gun prices start from around $10.
5. Audiosonic Action Camcorder
Similar to the well known GoPro Camera, this camcorder is suitable for older children who may want to record their action sports including swimming, snorkelling and diving adventures at the beach or at the pool. It comes with a waterproof case and several mounts including bike, car and helmet. It is available from Kmart for $50.
5. Snorkel Set
Let your children explore the underwater world with an inexpensive snorkel and flippers set. Available from all major stores, these generally retail from $20 upwards. Sydney has many great beaches which have no waves and are ideal for snorkelling. Find out more about Sydney’s best snorkelling beaches.
