At a Glance: Caregivers, parents, nannies and grandparents enjoying free story reading, singing and dancing and even using instruments with their children at local council libraries. Sessions run for about 30 minutes on certain week days. Check with your local library about whether you need to book, they can get quite packed. Normally on at least once or twice a week. Sessions are based upon age. The baby rhyme times are for children 2 years and under and the Storytime sessions are for children 2 years.

Cost: Free!

Opening Times: Depends upon the venue. Check with your nearest library or your council about when and what time they are on. They normally run for about half an hour.

Toilets: will be available at the library.

Age Suitability: Baby Rhyme times: Children 0-2 years, Storytimes: 2 years (in school holidays sometimes the library will allow school aged children to attend also).

Parking: Depends upon the location, check with your local council. Most libraries have public transport near by.

Description: Local council libraries run Baby Rhyme times for under 2's and Storytimes sessions for about half an hour , for ages 2 on particular days each week. Normally held in the mornings these groups are hosted by library staff who lead the children in nursery rhymes and songs, movement and musical instruments and also read the children a story. Caregivers are encouraged to participate with their child. These sessions are free so can fill up quickly. Check with libraries in your area to check times, dates and if you need to book.

A fantastic and free way to encourage your child to develop their literacy skills and at the same time a love of reading. Get out of the house and maybe even make some new friends.
