The play area at The Corso

Manly is a Sydney triumph at the best of times. This popular Northern Beaches suburb is a hub for kids (and adults alike) to play. You can be living anywhere in Sydney, and on a Sunday in particular, a trip to Manly for the family is ever so affordable, thanks to the Family Fun Day ticket.

Manly is a kid friendly playground in itself. Therefore, parents there will be plenty of free outdoor activities, some so simplistic for your kids to enjoy anywhere from a couple of hours to a whole day of play.

Play at the shell.

Firstly, the fun begins at the "shell" right outside Manly Wharf. Shell is a public art sculpture aptly defined as "...a mist sculpture reflecting Manly's relationship with the natural environment; the harbour and ocean marine life. 'Shell' emits clouds of mist at regular intervals." Its fun, its cool and watery. The things kids love. The little ones love climbing on (parents, no need to worry its completely safe) and jumping on. Can get watery. That awesome shell sculpture at Manly Wharf has its place.

Furthermore, turn to your left and you will find a beach right near the wharf as well as Manly Sea Life Aquarium. A no brainer.

Having fun at The Corso

Otherwise, head onto The Corso and in the middle of the Corso finds a park like playground with a blue slippery dip, a spider web and other colourful elements of play. Even in wet weather, there are a few families around with their kids playing.

Those fun water things

Walk towards Manly Beach, and right near the library are some simple water sprinklers that the kids of Sydney love to cool down and run around in, particularly in the warmer months.

Of course there is Manly Beach. An abundance of space to run around and play tips or stuck in the mud in the sand. Otherwise you have to go swimming and catch a few waves. Families, if you're eating hot chips, a burger or a pizza or kebab slice, watch out for those aggressive seagulls, even in wet weather.

Near and a view of Shelly Beach

Head towards Michel's Patisserie, and turn left. There is a walkway that will take you to Shelly Beach. A park and a beach rolled into one. Many family BBQ's and games and enjoyed here. Plenty to do in Manly. Of course, in the sunshine ensure you're kids are wearing some sunscreen and a hat. As the flags say at Manly Beach (right now, as at the time of writing this): Enjoy Manly.

Just watch out for the seagulls here
